Session One

The driving question from Bill Howe framed the thinking for the morning.

  • What counts in education, that cannot be counted?

This deep thinking about the purpose of assessment in education lead into consideration of addressing the competencies in a meaningful way from a cognitive, affective and psychomotor point of view. When woven together with the outcomes from the Alberta Program of Studies and effective assessment practices as outlined in the LEAP axioms, we endeavor to plan for and implement deep learning opportunities for students.

When thinking about planning for these learning opportunities,

  • what do we need to modify?
  • what do we need to start? 
  • what do we need to stop?
